Our Approach to Strategic Planning for Non-Profits & Businesses
When you are faced with challenging business quandaries, Ken Hubbell and Associates offers a broad suite of services to asses and retool operations, restructure goals, and help your organization operate in a demanding environment.
KHA's strategic planning for business and non-profit organizations can help you develop a roadmap for your business or organization. In developing this roadmap, our Associates will offer the tools and direction you need by facilitating a series of team-based planning meetings, which will produce a detailed strategic plan for your future, a plan that includes shared goals and vision for your establishment; unified viewpoints on how to address critical management issues; specific and quantifiable goals; an effective communications strategy; and a comprehensive action-plan to make certain that the strategic direction and plan for your organization becomes part of its daily operation.
Because each client is unique, we customize our strategic planning for non-profits and businesses to meet the needs of each individual organization. We approach each planning experience believing that we have a lot to learn about every new project and its interrelated systems and that we will uncover the best ideas by working closely with our clients and exploring uncertainties and opportunities together. A sample planning process would include some of the following steps:
- Discovery and Exploration: Depending on the size and structure of our client's organization, we hold focus meetings with selected staff and directors to create a shared vision of the organization's future and the driving questions the group is wrestling with.
- Alignment: The purpose of this phase of the process is to generate a shift in alignment and form consensus. Here we analyze the forces that will affect goals and vision that will examine the business model and differentiating factors that support an organization's competitive advantage. We help the group challenge current assumptions and identify the critical assets upon which it shapes its future. The strategic planning team produces a plan, which includes the organization's strategic direction, at least four potential scenarios, and outlines a map of goals.
- Priorities, Directions, Milestones, and Potential: The goals of this phase are to ensure long-term sustainability of the process and strategies, identify possible partners and funding sources, develop work plans with defined responsibilities and timelines, ensure accountability, and design an approach to measure and evaluate progress.
The entire process of strategic planning for business and non-profit organizations includes individual dialogues, group discussions, and mini- retreats that incorporate visual mapping and facilitation. Please read our case study on the Mosaic Templars strategic planning experience for a more comprehensive look at our style and approach. As we tailor our strategic plans and the process to each of our clients, we would be happy to arrange a discussion around your organization's strategic challenges and needs.
